Subtitled "The Way We Were 95-98," Homesick is a compilation of underground West Coast tracks recorded during those four years by Milky Wayne for Low-Cal Records. Unfortunately, some songs suffer from poor mixing that make the vocals nearly unlistenable. Large sections of Big Ups's "Long Way Down" get lost in the mix, and on "The Calling," the fast-paced, energetic bursts of Orko the Sycotik Alien are much louder than Tony Da Skitzo's laid back raps. But, if you can get past the low-quality sound, there are a few gems in this collection, like Mr Brady's "You're Dead." But the best track is easily the previously-released "Sideways" with West Kraven and Orko, who compliment each other perfectly over the minimal funk production. Orko's other appearances are also highlights, making him the star of the album, followed closely by Dizz. And better song selection for Tony Da Skitzo would have been appreciated. "Senoritas" is good, but "The Calling" is poorly mixed and the previously-released "Parlez Moi" should have been one of the last picks from Tony's Split Decision EP to be included here. Homesick is a decent look back when a step forward is what's needed.
